Recently, more and more men who have sex with men MSM look for casual partners through online dating platforms in China. A pragmatic stepped wedge cluster randomized controlled trial design is used to evaluate the effectiveness of a new intervention paradigm, which aims to reduce HIV and other STDs incidences among MSM in China. Through integrating a mobile health mHealth service application app to the current HIV and other STDs prevention and control methods, the new paradigm provides partner notification of HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C statuses.
A total of MSM in 16 districts of Beijing, China will be recruited and randomized to sequentially receive partner notification intervention through the app at 6-month intervals. The primary outcomes are HIV incidence and the additional cost of the intervention. The secondary outcomes include incidences of syphilis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, disease transmission social networks, testing adherence, knowledge of HIV and STDs control, health self-responsibility awareness, changes of high risk behaviors and other related outcomes.
The generalized linear mixed models GLMM will be used to analyze the differences of outcomes in the control period and in the intervention period. We expect that the HIV incidence will be significantly lower and the secondary outcomes will also be improved with providing health service of partner notification through mhealth intervention. In the Philippines, teens account for almost 10 percent of all people living with HIV, and in a span of just four years, new infections in the country have risen by 50 percent among older teens.

By Philip Sherwell , Bangkok. Although HIV infections are falling overall across the region, they are soaring among young males in the most at-risk populations. In the new report released on the eve of World Aids Day on Tuesday, the experts estimated that 50, or 15 per cent of the new , HIV infections in the region involved young males in their late teens. They said that a series of factors contributed to the increase in casual unsafe sex among adolescents in the region.
Among them is the popularity of mobile dating apps that allow casual hookups to be arranged by young males who could not otherwise meet sexual partners with such ease. There are now believed to be about , adolescents living with HIV in the region, with the hubs of new infections in large cities such as Bangkok, Hanoi and Jakarta. But compiling accurate data is extremely difficult as many countries in the region require anyone under 18 to obtain parental permission for an HIV test.
That barrier means that many teenagers are not tested because they do not want to ask the consent of their parents. Indeed, with the stigma attached to HIV still so high, the prevalence of the epidemic only started to become clear as experts studied figures for HIV-related deaths among young males. The authors urged governments in the region to put greater focus on collecting data about adolescents, strategies for HIV prevention among the young and adolescent-specific laws and policies.
Among countries where data are available, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines have the highest proportion of adolescents living with HIV, accounting for almost 10 per cent of total people living with HIV in each country.
